As a youngster I drew airplanes and hotrods.  I painted simple watercolor landscapes and seascapes.  More maturity brought a fascination drawing clouds.  I could make them light and friendly, or dark and ominous depending on my mood.

As a teen my fascination moved from drawing clouds to drawing faces.  Fittingly my first portrait was of my mom.  Mothers do have a tendency to overvalue their children’s creations, but my mom treasured that study in charcoal.  No matter how many times she moved, it always found a prominent place in her home.

Today, with my successful non-art related career in the rearview mirror, I am once again delving into my passion for art.  I hope you enjoy my work.  If something in my style resonates with you, I would enjoy hearing your comments.

To me photography is an art form.  With the proper equipment, technique and some good old fashioned luck, the camera lens can capture images ranging from the surreal to the majestically beautiful.  My love affair with photography began about 1981.  During the intervening twenty-seven years I have been fortunate to capture some extraordinary shots.  The vast majority of these images are on film and I am still in the process of digitizing them.  I will shortly be posting some of my photographs on this site.  I hope you will enjoy them.

Although I see photography as an art form to itself, in recent years photography has become more of an adjunct to my drawings and paintings.   My passion is portraits.  But people find posing for an artist tedious at best.  In many cases it is impossible for the subject to pose for a portrait.  Children for example can hardly sit still long enough to eat, much less long enough for me to fuss over their facial proportions and features.   Many people want an original fine art portrait of a loved one who has passed.  This is another case where working from photographs is the only option.  I always prefer to take my own photographs.  Taking my own photos not only affords me the opportunity to control things like the lighting, but it also gives me a chance to get to know the person.  The personality behind the face is vital.
